LITTLE Hulton’s 100 per cent record remained intact and their relentless march towards the title continued unabated with a routine home win over Spring View.
The Wigan side were dismissed for 148 with Anthony Woods top scoring on 52, but the star of the show was Little Hulton bowler Neil Jarvis who took 5- 34.
The hosts reached the required target with three wickets remaining thanks to Hasnain Abbas’s 36. Spring View’s Mark Perry was the only visiting bowler to make any impression by taking 3-40.
Although the Manchester Road men are runaway leaders, the battle for second place hotted up as Blackrod took advantage of defeat for Darcy Lever to leapfrog into the runners-up slot, by beating their other close rivals Elton.
In a match reduced to 41 overs because of showers, Blackrod posted 187-8 with Saif Bhojani and professional Brenton Parchment hitting 61 and 42 respectively, despite Alec Roughley’s fine 4-33 for the visitors.
Elton then fell 51 runs short of their target with John Ashworth (51) and Ashley Gowers (34) running out of support as wickets fell around them.
Hosts Darcy, meanwhile, were dismissed 164 by Daisy Hill, although Jimmy Deering hit 64 and captain Nick Fawcett hung around for 26, while professional Asif Zakir took 4-50.
Zakir then took the game by the scruff of the neck to hit 88 not out as Daisy reached 168-8 in spite of the efforts of Dayne Ferry who took 4-46.
Elsewhere, Walshaw beat hosts Astley and Tyldesley who were dismissed for 135 thanks largely to professional David Bowden’s 7-69. Only A&T pro Joe Hawke was able to trouble the scorer with 28.
The Bury men then hit 136-5 as Gavin Nichol hit 56 and Bowden 28 as Stuart Dickinson took 3-31.
Home side Adlington folded disappointingly against Edgworth, who scored 156-5 thanks to David Parkinson’s 62 not out and Simon Lord’s 40.
Adlington were then skittled for 106 with pro Majid Majeed and Rizwan Shahid both hitting 28.
Flixton suffered a heavy defeat on home turf after Atherton hit 176 all out, Ian Nuttall and Matt Stevenson hitting 47 and 39 respectively.
The hosts were then bowled out for 73 as Daniel Salpietro took an impressive five-wicket haul.
The lowest scoring encounter of the weekend took place at Standish, who were dismissed for 76 with only pro Nick Lacey (27) getting a score, as Graham Marston took 5-10 and David Roberts 3-20.
Lee Ackerley’s 37 helped the visitors to reach their target.
