NIGEL Reo-Coker wants revenge against Norwich City to be the next step on Wanderers’ road to recovery.
After an encouraging run of results that has catapulted the Whites clear of the bottom three, the current captain warns there can be no drop in standards at Carrow Road.
A 2-1 home defeat back in September – albeit one hastened by Ivan Klasnic’s needless red card – still sticks in the midfielder’s craw.
And though some suggest that Wanderers miscalculated the threat carried by the newly-promoted Canaries that day, Reo-Coker reckons the result should serve as an incentive for three points tomorrow afternoon.
“I don’t think it’s so much about under-estimating Norwich, it’s about looking at our performance on that day,” he said.
“Over the past few games we could have given absolutely anyone a run. We didn’t get to those levels or do ourselves justice when we played them at home.
“In our minds we have to put the record straight and set it right out there.”
Wednesday night’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal exemplified the giant strides that have been made by Owen Coyle’s men since Christmas.
But Reo-Coker knows the onus now rests on Wanderers to put daylight between themselves and their relegation-threatened rivals with positive results against less glamorous opposition.
Games against Norwich and Wigan are next up – and the 27-year-old admits the challenge is now to try and gain a measure of consistency.
“That’s something we need to work on,” he said. “That’s the foundation.
“We have set our standards now as players, so we must perform at that level week in, week out.
“It isn’t good enough to do it against the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.
“We have got to do it against the teams in and around us, without being disrespectful to Norwich or Wigan.
“It’s about having the resilience to get the wins we need.”
