WITH Norwich having suffered just three league defeats at home all season, it was always going to be a big ask for Wanderers to extend their unbeaten run at Carrow Road.
The team couldn’t have entered the game in a better mindset, having lost just one of the last eight games. Throughout the clash it looked as though the Whites could have possibly snatched the victory, but in the end it was just a bridge too far.
It could have been so very different had Kevin Davies managed to fire home with the scores level, but we were ultimately punished for not taking our chances.
Wanderers were already all too familiar with how dangerous the Canaries can be, having suffered defeat to them in September, but the home side emerged from a game that could have arguably gone either way.
Despite the hosts hitting the underside of the bar early on, the Whites enjoyed a number of opportunities, but struggled to reproduce the exceptional form they have shown of late and were undone by two late goals.
The main highlight, though, has to be the debut of Tyrone Mears. Having broken his leg just a week after joining the club in the summer, the former Burnley man was impressive at right-back in place of the injured Gretar Steinsson.
The defender will have been anxious finally making his first appearance in a Bolton shirt but he certainly impressed the travelling supporters, who were in excellent voice throughout the game.
With Wolves recording a shock win against QPR, however, the defeat now means we have been dragged back into the relegation zone. Although extremely disappointing, all we can do is look to our next game against Wigan.
The rock bottom Latics were denied victory by a late Everton equaliser on Saturday, but on home turf the game is one most certainly there for the taking.
Three points at the weekend could possibly turn the situation on its head once again – it is so tight down at the bottom right now, there is no use letting one negative result destroy our belief that we can survive.
There is no doubt a win is crucial with incredibly difficult trips to Chelsea and Manchester City on the horizon, but the team have proven of late that they are capable of getting the results – it’s just a case of producing it week in week out.
