Wanderers can finally see light at the end of the tunnel in their bid to get Gregg Wylde involved in their relegation run-in.

The Scotland Under-21s international has been left in limbo for six weeks since quitting Rangers at the start of March when the SPL club went into administration.

He rejected overtures from Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Everton to sign a three-year deal at the Reebok, but required ratification from FIFA before being allowed to play.

The world governing body wanted to examine the circumstances of his decision to leave Rangers and be satisfied that the move – completed outside the transfer window – was agreed by mutual consent.

It has been a slow and frustrating process, but it is understood Wylde should get the go-ahead to resume his career before the weekend and could be in contention for a place in Owen Coyle’s squad for the crucial home game against Swansea City.

Club staff were yesterday in constant contact with the Football Association, who have been liaising with FIFA to help move the paperwork along and allow the highly-rated 20-year-old to pull on a Wanderers shirt, four weeks after he was officially announced as a new signing.

Wylde has trained with his new team-mates throughout the process and joined them on their recent short break in Dubai, but permission was not granted in time for the winger to feature in last night’s reserve team game against Everton at Leyland.

Meanwhile, reports suggest West Brom and West Ham are monitoring Jussi Jaaskelainen’s contract situation at Wanderers.

The experienced Finn is among 10 first-team players who are awaiting offers from the club, and has recently fallen behind Adam Bogdan in the pecking order.

It is understood Wanderers want to keep hold of the 37-year-old keeper, who is closing in on Eddie Hopkinson's all-time club appearance record, but will not be resuming talks on a new deal until their Premier League status is decided.
