THERE have not been too many moments to savour during the last season, but Wanderers did chip in with a few goals to remember.

Here, chief football writer Marc Iles, picks out his favourites goals of the relegation campaign.

1 GARY CAHILL v QPR – Loftus Road, August 13, 2011 Cahill always revelled in joining up with the attack, and with the game finely poised just before the break he unleashed a pearler from the edge of the box to start the season in style.

Receiving a pass from Chris Eagles, he swept a right-footed effort high into the top corner past Paddy Kenny to set a platform for a 4-0 win. Unfortunately for Wanderers, it wasn’t always this good.

2 SAM RICKETTS v WOLVES – (1-1) Reebok Stadium, December 31, 2011.

RICKETTS marked his return from long-term injury with a rare but perfectly executed strike, which claimed the club’s goal of the season award.

The Wales international raided down the left before cutting in on his right to curl a 25-yard effort into the bottom corner past international team-mate Wayne Hennessey.

3 RYO MIYAICHI v MILLWALL – (2-0) The New Den, February 18, 2012 Millwall had barely had chance to draw breath before the Japanese winger burst into the game with a brilliant finish.

Sam Ricketts’ quick thinking set him free on the left, and he cut inside his defender before delivering a perfect shot inside the far post to set Wanderers on their way to victory.

4 MARK DAVIES v WIGAN ATHLETIC – (1-2) Reebok Stadium, February 11, 2012 At the top of his game, Davies was a joy to watch this season – and this strike was arguably the high point. Adam Bogdan’s huge clearance bounced off the back of David Ngog, but like a flash the midfielder seized on the loose ball and struck a beautifully weighted effort past Ali Al-Habsi in the derby.

5 CHRIS EAGLES v STOKE CITY – (5-0) Reebok Stadium, November 6, 2011 As Wanderers gained a measure of revenge for their FA Cup semi-final defeat, Eagles produced the pick of the five goals.

Asmir Begovic scuffed a clearance out to the wing, where the former Manchester United man had no right to shoot – but after killing the ball with his first touch, Eagles sent a low shot flying back past the hapless Stoke keeper into the bottom corner.
