EGERTON again showed their class when they fought back from a precarious position to reach finals day of the Anthony Axford Bolton Indoor Cricket Tournament.

The reigning champions, who became Lancashire champions last month, were struggling at 45-4 off eight overs due to tight bowling by Farnworth Social Circle’s Andrew Brooks, David Tonge, Simon Harrison and Andrew Lane.

Antony Clegg then steadied the ship in the Bolton School sports hall when he scored 24 runs to steer his side to 85 all out.

Stuart Hornby then picked up the mantle with the ball, taking 3- 15 from 2.3 overs as FSC were bowled out for 74, Simon Harrison top scoring with 27.

Farnworth comfortably disposed of Little Lever in the third week of the four-week competition to gain their place in Sunday’s last four.

Simon Booth and David Morris starred with the bat, unbeaten on 33 and 31, respectively, as their side amassed 99-4.

In reply, Little Lever never recovered from two quick runouts and were all out for 38 after six overs.

Their top scorer was Harvey Wilson with 25, and Farnworth’s Mark Atherton took 2-18 from his three overs.

Phil Cavill (34 not out) and David Morris (32no) led the way in rampant Horwich’s victory over Greenmount.

The Railwaymen set a target of 121-4 – all the victims run outs – with Joe Settle adding a fine 26.

Greenmount recovered from losing two quick wickets with their score on 34 to reach 104, Ryan Senior leading the way with an unbeaten 32 and Andy Bowker hitting 29 in an impressive partnership which ended with a runout.

Heaton won through to finals day in a one-sided game against Tonge.

After losing their first wicket with the score on 21, Rick Parry (27) and Tom Liversedge (28) produced a key partnership in their side’s 97-6.

Tonge’s fine fielding was rewarded with all their victims being run out, but they could not find the same form with the bat, finishing on 29, with Alex Jones taking 3-6 off just 1.5 overs, and Dominic Ball and Liversedge pulling off two impressive catches.

Finals day Sunday Semi-finals: 1pm Egerton v Farnworth, 2.15pm Heaton v Horwich. Final 3.30pm.
