OWEN Coyle’s sacking at Bolton Wanderers this morning came as little surprise to me and, I doubt, to the man himself.

My last pre-match press conference with Coyle at Euxton before the Leeds home game saw the Scot talking about being aware he was in a results business and acknowledging pressure comes when those wins do not come.

A draw and another away defeat later and his fate was all-but sealed.

I think most Wanderers fans will be happy a change is forthcoming, though many may have slight mixed feelings after Coyle’s exploits as a player for the Whites.

I’m sure chairman Phil Gartside, as a fan himself, also found it a tough decision but I believe it is one that needed making.

The fact it is at the start of an international break means the Whites have almost a fortnight to start the search for that new man. I doubt there will be a lack of applicants.

It is still early days but Wanderers are in real danger of their promotion credentials going up in flames before Bonfire Night.

They need a spark to ignite them quickly and a change in manager will bring that fresh outlook.

Here’s hoping they explode into life, and fast.
