BOLTON United are celebrating at the double after capping a record-breaking league crown with a regional knockout title.
The local outfit, who have undergone a remarkable transformation over the last five years, finished top of Division One of the Mid Lancashire League with an unbeaten record to secure a second successive promotion, which means they can now plan for Premier Division football next season.
In addition, under inspirational manager Salim Docky, they won the annual North West AMT Tournament, sponsored by Asian Image Newspaper.
United, sponsored by Affezel Adam from Premier Claims Plus, have built a reputation for playing an attractive, exciting, passing style of football, which has brought them a string of successes since starting out as a five-a-side team, winning a host of league and cup titles, including and impressive run in the nationwide Umbro Championships, in which they represented the North West.
After switching to the 11-a-side format in Division Four of the Bolton Sunday League they enjoyed success locally before moving on to the Mid Lancashire League in which they soon became a force to be reckoned with.
They have also expanded into junior football with their under-nines team just having completed a successful first season.
The Bolton United Community Group believe they now have the basis of a community club that will produce teams at a range of age groups.
“We are planning to use football as a platform to tackle anti-social behaviour and ultimately be a positive benefactor to the community,” a club spokesman said.
