EAGLEY ended up with the bragging rights in their Richardson Cup battle with fellow Premier League side Tempest United.

Manager Phil Roberts saw his side edge the tie 3-1, but admitted after they sealed victory through an own goal 10 minutes from time that it was not one for the purists.

“It was not a pretty spectacle,” he said.

“The match was a typical local derby, lots of battling and challenges, but credit to both teams it never once got out of hand.” Eagley took the lead after 25 minutes when a corner from Gary Whiteside was headed home by Simon Neary. And that is how it stayed until 10 minutes after the break, when Matty Carter tapped in to equalise for the visitors.

Roberts’ men regained their advantage 20 minutes from time when Matty Carr fired in another Whiteside cross. And the tie was finally settled when Tempest’s Ross McNair put through his own net.

Tempest’s assistant manager Gary Westhead believes his side are missing a vital ingredient to turn good play into victories.

“It was a typical derby, not much football played, just a lot of big tackles and hard graft,” he said. “We are just lacking that little something extra to win us games.”

Turton continued their fine form in Division One with a convincing 5-2 win at Lytham Town.

They bounced back after conceding an early goal to clinch their fourth win on the road in November.

Kieran Sisson equalised before the break then Joe Jackson finished well from a lay-off from first-team debutant Kyle Dickson to put them ahead early in the second half.

Sisson got his second and sub Lewys Jones made it 4-1 before Lytham pulled a goal back.

But Curtis Warburton came off the bench to settle the visitors’ nerves with their fifth goal.

Bolton County also came from behind to hit five in their 5-3 victory against Wyre Villa.

Liam Stewart levelled before Tom Aspen was felled in the box to earn a penalty, which he converted.

The guilty defender saw red for his challenge on Aspen, and County capitalised as Matthew Cooper made it 3-1 before the break.

Villa made a game of it in the second half, pulling a goal back and scoring a third either side of Josh Morris’s strike for County.

But Stewart rounded off the scoring late in the game to seal the three points.

In Division Two, there were heavy defeats for two of our clubs with Stoneclough going down 4-0 at Milnthorpe Corinthians while CMB lost 2-0 to GSK Ulverston Rangers.

Meanwhile, the first match on Ladybridge’s new 3G pitch did not quite go to plan as league leaders Askam ran out 2-0 winners.
