Flintoff's search for local talent

ANDREW Flintoff is setting out on a search for a future England hero by establishing a series of cricket academies for kids around the country this summer - and Bolton is his first destination.

The 30-year-old England all-rounder has used his time rehabilitating from a persistent ankle problem to implement a series of coaching clinics, and one of them has been scheduled for Bolton School in July.

They have been organised with the help of Lancashire team-mate Luke Sutton, who has experience of similar camps through his work with kids adventure camp company Activate Sport during the winter.

Flintoff will visit every one of the camps, having fitted the schedule around his cricket commitments with Lancashire and England, and they will be open to boys and girls aged seven to 16 with 22 places at every venue being given to under-privileged children.

"The game has been very good to me and I'm very passionate about cricket and this is a way for me to put a little bit back in," Flintoff said. "It would be great if we could find an England star of the future but more importantly it's giving people a chance to play cricket at whatever level and it's all about spreading the word of the game.

The camp will run at Bolton School from July 21 to 25.

Each child who attends the academy will be given a free Woodworm cricket shirt.

To book a place, ring 0800 3457480 or 0800 0665966 or e-mail andrewflintoffcricketacademy.co.uk.
