A massive Bolton following turned up to cheer the Wanderers on at the DW Stadium.

It’s a pity the team didn’t turn up for the first half. We were outplayed, outfought and second best by a long way.

This was back to the bad old ways of early season. The defence looked uncomfortable, particularly Baptiste who struggled to contain McManaman all match.

The midfield were a yard slower than their opposite numbers and the cohesion just wasn’t there.

It was no surprise when Wigan went one up through a penalty when Mills used his hand instead of his head to clear the ball, and the usually well organised defence was at sixes and sevens when Powell scored a second with an overhead kick.

It was late in the first half when Joe Mason managed to force a good save from Carson.

It was a relief when half time came as this was as bad a half as we have had all season, and I don’t know what Dougie put in their half-time tea but it worked.

It was as if they had swapped shirts as Bolton came storming out and went at Wigan. Danns got the first and nearly the second as his header grazed the bar.

Moritz equalised from the spot after Chungy was fouled in the box. We were back in it but we got careless again when McManaman was given too much space to hit the winner.

We continued to dominate the second half but the equaliser just wouldn’t come.

The crowd got a real boost when Mark Davies came on for the final push. But it wasn’t to be as we ran out of time. It was a great local derby with plenty of atmosphere and credit to Wigan who welcomed Wanderers fans into their comfortable marquee lounge before the match.

We deserved a point but three defeats in four matches mean we are sliding back into trouble again. We need to get back to winning ways again, especially as the next two matches are against teams below us.
