I KNOW all about sitting around as a fourth official or kicking my heels as I was overlooked for the top games in the Premier League, so I sympathise with Mark Clattenburg, pictured, right now.
He has been overlooked for the third time in four weeks and will be refereeing a Championship game at Norwich on Tuesday night.
Martin Atkinson – who I highlighted in last week’s column after making mistakes in a ridiculously busy week at home and abroad – gets another top-flight game.
In my opinion, and I accept others may disagree, Mark is our number one referee and I think he is being seriously underused.
It should be like a football team. Week in, week out you put your best team on to the pitch. If a player has a bad spell, pull them out and then put them back in somewhere down the line.
Sometimes your face doesn’t fit, and in my opinion that’s wrong.
