IF I understood how the Davis Cup worked I might be able to get a bit more excited about it.

The ties are simple enough to follow – the country with the most victories after four singles and one doubles match wins.

But who plays whom, when they play and where they play is more of a mystery.

It seems only last year Team GB plummeted to their lowest ever Davis Cup ranking.

Yet their Andy Murray-inspired victory over USA in Glasgow last weekend set up a quarter-final tie at home to France.

How did that happen?
