BOXING Day 1963 will go down in history as the most-goal crazy day in top flight history.

Wanderers lost 3-0 at Sheffield Wednesday, one of the day’s more humdrum results.

In all, an amazing 66 goals were shared between 10 games including a 10-1 thrashing for Ipswich Town at Fulham just 18 months after they had lifted the league title with Sir Alf Ramsey in charge.

There were four goals apiece for Andy Lochead (Burnley), Graham Leggat (Fulham), Roger Hunt (Liverpool) and hat-tricks for Andy McEvoy and Fred Pickering (both Blackburn) and Bobby Howfield (Fulham).

Results on the day: Blackpool 1 Chelsea 5; Burnley 6 Manchester United 1; Fulham 10 Ipswich 1; Leicester 2 Everton 0; Liverpool 6 Stoke 1; Nottingham Forest 3 Sheffield United 3; Sheffield Wednesday 3 Wanderers 0; West Brom 4 Tottenham 4; West Ham 2 Blackburn 8; Wolves 3 Aston Villa 3.
