TOM Carson has proved himself to be one of the top cross country runners on the planet in his age group.
The Bolton Harrier took on the best in the world at his age, and a year older, in the World Schools Cross Country Championships and finished 15th out of 65.
St Joseph's High School student Carson was the first 16-year-old to cross the line in the Czech Republic race.

He can still compete in the under-18s age group next year when, if he maintains the rapid progress he has made this season, he could stamp his authority on the world as well as the domestic scene.
Unfortunately, he will not have the chance to race in the World Schools Championships next year as the event is only staged every two years.
Carson, from Horwich, was the second member of the British team to cross the line, helping his country to a fifth-placed finish.
He will now be looking to build on the highlight of an outstanding cross country season on the track this summer.
