Farnworth maintain unbeaten tag

DL FARNWORTH A have finished the current season with the Bolton Badminton League's C Section title - and the only team to have an unbeaten record.

They took maximum points from their fixtures, with 18-0 and 15-3 wins respectively against Westhoughton C and Hawkshaw D to finish, and take their place back in B Section next season.

Oakgate was the only other team in the league not to have dropped a point, but they lost that record this week to promotion wannabes Markland Hill F when they went down 7-11 at the Heaton club. Consolation for Oakgate is that they have already clinched the D Section cup and promotion.

DL Farnworth may still have a double celebration as their C team currently heads E Section and is certainly in the frame for promotion if not the divisional title. Moorside are equally assured of having two teams in D Section.

Their A team finishes the season just outside the promotion zone, but their B team looks set for demotion. With their C and D teams, however, poised at numbers two and three in E Section, the club looks set to maintain its standards next season.

In A Section, while the championship definitely belongs to holders Markland Hill A, the runners-up spot is still up for grabs with Markland Hill's B team hoping for the second slot but facing competition from Bury A and Hawkshaw A. Hawkshaw B and Metro A are set to leave A Section.

In an intriguing situation at the top of B Section, however, Hawkshaw could retain a second team - if the club's C team manage to squeeze past Markland Hill D into the runners-up position.
