AMIR Khan has revealed to The Bolton News his next fight will be on December 7.

And the Bolton superstar has confirmed he will be stepping up a weight and that the fight will almost definitely be for a world title.

IBF champ Devon Alexander is understood to be in the Bolton boxer’s sights for a prestige fight at welterweight, which will almost certainly take place in the US.

Speaking to The Bolton News at the launch of the Soccer Six event at the Reebok Stadium yesterday, Khan outlined his plans for later in the year.

“I’m going to have a nice little break now with Ramadan coming up, but once I’ve done all that I’m looking at December 7 – and you’re the first to know that!” he said.

“It’ll be a step up to 147lbs and – hopefully – it’ll be for a world title.”

It is just a couple of weeks since Khan won a bruising battle with Julio Diaz in Sheffield, which immediately raised questions about his next move.

The 26-year-old gets married later this summer to his fiancee Faryal Makhdoom but now appears to have shelved ideas of a rematch with WBA and WBC champ Danny Garcia, the man who beat him over four rounds last July at light-welterweight, to head straight for a shot at welterweight glory.

That move, if successful, could bring sharply into focus a dream bout with Floyd Mayweather Jnr in the foreseeable future.

In the meantime, Khan will be lending some brotherly support to Haroon, who takes part in his second professional fight against American Vicente Medellin this Saturday in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Haroon beat Brett Fidoe in his debut bout last month and Amir believes his sibling is now coming on leaps and bounds under his former trainer Oliver Harrison.

“It’s his second pro fight and I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “It’s his first in America, so that’s a big step for him.

“It’s all a learning curve for him at the moment. He’s been training with Oliver (Harrison) and really looking strong. He’s listening and learning all the time.

“You pick out things in his first fight that he’d probably change but it was exactly the same for me – you just keep working hard and he’ll be fine.”

Amir jets off to the States after helping promote this weekend’s Soccer Sixes tournament at the Reebok, which sees a plethora of celebrities take to the pitch in an event that will raise money for the Hearts and Goals charity, among others.

“Unfortunately I won’t be able to play because I’ll be over watching Haroon but it’s a great cause and I was happy to come down and back it,” he said.

“They are hoping that by the end of the summer there will be 500 defibrillators given out, including two to me for people who come into my gym.

“There are 500 kids who come in and out every single week so I’m really happy to work with Hearts and Goals because they are doing such good work.

Khan has got through a mountain of charity work in the weeks after his last fight but shows no signs of slowing down despite coming to such a crucial stage of his career in the ring.

“I do love giving back to the community because boxing has been my life and if I hadn’t been involved then I would have been a normal kid doing normal stuff,” he said.

“I need to keep my feet on the ground by helping people out and remembering how hard I worked to get into this position.

“God is watching, so hopefully if I try my best then my reward will come.”
