Haroon Khan is chomping at the bit to get back into the ring on Friday at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

The 22-year-old Bolton boxer has not fought for six months after two wins in quick succession since turning professional in spring.

The super-flyweight won on debut on the undercard of older brother Amir’s last fight in Sheffield in April on points against Brett Fidoe and then beat Vincente Medellin by way of a first-round knockout in Atlantic City the following month.

Since then, the younger Khan has had to bide his time to get back into action but is ready to resume his career against 20-year-old Bulgarian Stefan Slavchev next weekend on a bill put on by VIP promotions.

Khan told The Bolton News: “I have not stepped in the ring for six months and cannot wait to get back. “I want to fight as often as possible and had hoped to be back sooner. But it was busy with 30 days off for Ramadan and then we had Amir’s wedding as well.

“I was set to be on the undercard of the David Haye v Tyson Fury fight in Manchester before that was postponed. I also tried to get on the bill of Kell Brook’s recent win but the card was full.

“I am glad to be on any show and it is great I have got a chance on the VIP promotions night in Blackpool.

“I need to get as many fights as I can to gain experience after only turning pro this year.

“I am looking at another date before the end of the year as well.

“There is the possibility of maybe getting on the card in New York on December 7 when Pauli Malinaggi fights or in Wigan a week later. I want to keep getting fights regularly, maybe every six weeks or so, because I want to keep progressing.”

The 2010 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist only had his opponent confirmed just over a week ago, but says training has been going well with Oliver Harrison at his gym in Salford.

He added: “Sparring has been going really well and I feel I am getting better all the time with Oliver. I am learning all the time and there is lots more to come from me.

“I’m very pleased that my opponent has now been confirmed. I can start working on some specific things in order to prepare for him.

“Training has gone great and I can see the improvements I’m making all the time in the gym.

“I can’t wait for November 15, because I’m ready to put on a great performance.”
