LISA Ashton turned the tables on the British Darts Organisation’s seedings list when she retained her world title with a string of sensational displays at the Lakeside Country Club.

The Bolton thrower, unseeded as defending champion because she had not won enough ranking events, took the trophy for the second time on Saturday when she beat 20-year-old sixth-seed Fallon Sherrock of Milton Keynes 3-1 in the final at the Frimley Green venue.

She had dropped dropped just two sets on her way to the title, having earlier knocked out two of her main English rivals.

The Lancashire Rose beat Oxfordshire's Deta Hedman 3-1 in the first round then whitewashed nine-time world champion Trina Gulliver in the quarter-finals – a match in which she hit 13 tons.

Ashton, whose rise to the top of the darts world has earned her a long-term sponsorship deal with A180 Darts, reached her third successive final when she beat Dutch international Sharon Prins 2-0 in Friday’s semi-final.

Sherrock, the youngest player to reach a BDO world final and playing in only her second World Championships, ran the Bolton ace close in the final, fighting back from 2-0 down to snatch the third set in the best of five duel.

But the 44-year-old from Johnson Fold, who plays for Lord Raglan in the Astley Bridge Darts League, had been in imperious form throughout the tournament and hit back impressively to secure victory in the fourth.

"I'm over the moon," Ashton told BBC Sport.

"I've been really pleased with my form this week and I can't ask for any better."
