BOLTON boxer Jack Flatley cannot wait to get back in the ring after coming through his first professional fight at the Manchester Arena with flying colours.

The 21-year-old Farnworth middleweight, who trains at Elite Gym in Halliwell, won every one of the scheduled four rounds against ex-Marine Lewis van Poetsch to record his first win on points.

And on a great night for Elite, Flatley’s stablemate Luke Blackledge defended his Commonwealth super-middleweight title, coming through a thrilling 12-round encounter with Lee Markham to claim a unanimous decision on points.

“I want to get out into the ring quite regularly,” said Flatley, who won five regional championships as an amateur and made it to the final of the senior ABAs before turning pro.

“I have got a couple of options for my next fight already, but I guess my favoured move would be a spot on the Billy Joe Saunders v Andy Lee bill back at Manchester Arena on December 19.”

Flatley’s no-nonsense, front-foot style gained him a lot of admirers inside the Arena and on YouTube, after the full four rounds were shown live on BoxNation.

He even had promoter Frank Warren cheering him on from ringside as he landed a series of big shots to open up a cut above the eye of his more experienced opponent and also bloody his nose.

But the youngster showed he could take a few blows himself as he got caught on the inside as he went on the attack.

“I hit him with everything, a lot of really hard, big shots, and he just carried on coming forward, so I had to stick to my game plan,” Flatley admitted.

“It was a good test, a tough fight.

“Obviously, I won every round so I have to be happy with my performance.

“I was also lucky enough to get some good exposure live on TV on BoxNation. It’s not every boxer who gets that opportunity on their first fight.

“I went into the ring at half five, and while I didn’t know it at the time, a lot of people were saying afterwards that Frank Warren came ringside to watch me and was really getting involved.

“So that’s a good reaction from someone like him.”
