BOXER Tyson Fury, who trains in Bolton and owns a gym in the town, was provisionally suspended in June over the presence of a prohibited substance, the UK Anti-Doping agency announced.

The drugs testing body said the suspension of the heavyweight champion had been lifted pending a hearing of the independent National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP).

It comes as Fury, aged 27, prepares to fight Wladimir Klitschko in a rematch in Manchester in October after beating his Ukranian rival in November in Germany.

UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) also said it suspended Hughie Fury – Fury's cousin – and that he too would have his case heard by the NADP.

The boxers' lawyer Lewis Power previously said: "The two boxers strenuously deny taking any performance-enhancing drugs.

"However, during the last five weeks, leaks about these charges have appeared in the press and both boxers have been the targets of continual abusive language on Twitter."

Fury, who recently celebrated the birth of his third child, defends his WBO and WBA heavyweight titles in the home city showdown against Klitschko.

The original fight date of July 9 was postponed when Fury injured his ankle while training.

In a statement released today, a UKAD spokeswoman said: "In response to public comments made by Tyson and Hughie Fury's representatives, UK Anti-Doping can confirm that both boxers were charged on June 24 2016 with presence of a prohibited substance.

"Mandatory provisional suspensions were imposed pursuant to article 7.9.1 of the UK Anti-Doping rules.

"The UK Anti-Doping Rules allow athletes to challenge the imposition of a provisional suspension and the independent NADP today lifted the athletes' suspensions, pending full determination of the charges.

"These charges will be heard at a hearing before the NADP in due course.

"UK Anti-Doping will not comment further on the case until due legal process has been completed."

Fury, who nicknames himself The Gypsy King, is reportedly suing UKAD over allegations he took performance-enhancing drugs with an interim judgment expected before the Klitschko rematch.

The Wythenshawe-born boxer owns the Team Fury gym in the Platinum Community Centre in the old Robin Hood pub in Halliwell Road, Halliwell.
