MARCO Antonio Barrera has warned Amir Khan he is making a terrible mistake.

The Bolton lightweight takes on the Mexican legend at the MEN Arena on Saturday night.

Khan is hoping victory will help him take a major step towards becoming a world champion.

But Barrera feels he has picked the wrong opponent to get his career back on track after his shock defeat to Breidis Prescott last September.

And the 35-year-old, who has won world titles at three different weights, is underwhelmed by Khan’s Olympic silver medal.

“They’ve picked the wrong guy to step up against,” said Barrera.

“If he thinks he is going to use me as a step to a title fight then I’ve got some bad news for him - I’ve come here to win.

“It’s the third Olympic fighter I’ve fought. Kennedy McKinney won gold and Rocky Juarez won silver and I beat both of them. Amir’s the third one and just another one on my list.”

The brilliant Mexican has come out of retirement to face Khan after hanging up his gloves following his points defeat to Manny Pacquiao, the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, in October 2007.

Barrera, who has fought twice on his comeback trail ahead of Saturday’s eagerly-awaited clash, has had an incredible career spanning two decades, losing just six times in 72 bouts.
