Amir's shot at world title is put back

AMIR Khan's world-title clash against Andreas Kotelnik has been put back three weeks and switched to Manchester.

The Bolton ace was due to take on the Ukrainian at London’s 02 Arena on June 27.

But the fight has been delayed after Kotelnik picked up a tooth infection following an incident in training.

The WBA light-welterweight showdown will now take place at the MEN Arena on July 18 after the new date clashed with a Michael Jackson concert at the venue in the capital.

“Firstly, I’m delighted that my world-title fight against Kotelnik is still on and, when July 18 comes, I will never be more ready for him, although the postponement of the fight is a pain,” said Khan.

“In boxing, these things happen so I have to be professional and stay focused. However, when I’m the victor and I am finally crowned world champion, it will make up for it.

“Freddie Roach is adjusting my training accordingly so that I’m ready for the new date and I’m at my peak both physically and mentally.”

Khan is disappointed the O2 was unavailable, but is looking forward to fighting closer to home in Manchester — the scene of his stunning victory over Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera in March “I had a great night at the MEN Arena against Barrera last time out and now I aim to win the world title against Kotelnik there too,.” said the 22-year-old, who has moved up a weight division in his bid to become a world champion.
