POSTMAN Jonny Rocco wants to produce a first-class display on his return to action against Danny Parkinson.
The Great Lever light-welterweight controversially lost his last fight against Paul King on points in June — only his second defeat of his career.
Rocco, pictured, is confident he can put that behind him when he meets Bradford’s Parkinson, who has won 13 of his 17 fights, in Huddersfield tonight. And the 27-year-old, who is now based at Ricky Hatton’s gym in Hyde, is eager to make up for lost time after nine months out of the ring.
“I’m raring to go,” he said. “It’s been ages since I last fought. I’ve been in the gym and I can’t wait get back into the swing of things. I was ripped off against King but that’s boxing for you. Parkinson is a bit of a boxer and mover. I’ve heard he’s a bit chinny but he’s coming down from light-middleweight and I can’t take anyone for granted.”
Rocco, who fights on the undercard of Gary Sykes’ clash with Andy Morris for the vacant British super featherweight title, is looking for sponsorship. If anyone can help contact 07935 172762.
Meanwhile, four Bolton fighters are aiming to become schoolboy champions this weekend.
The youngsters are in action at the national finals at Brentwood Leisure Centre in Essex.
Gloves duo Ibrahim Shah and Reece Jones will take on Billy Murray (Hoddesdon) and Simon Baker (Repton) at 60kg and 54kg respectively.
Farnworth’s Sahir Iqbal (Bury ABC) faces Jordan Flynn (Berinsfield) at 46kg, while Khaleel Majid (Bridgewater Salford), will meet Jimmy Smith (Repton) at 44kg.
