BOXING: Jonny Rocco defeated Danny Parkinson in his first fight in nine months.
The part-time postman stamped his style on the six-rounder with a convincing 59-56 points victory in Huddersfield on Friday night.
But Rocco admitted it was far from a first-class display against Bradford’s Parkinson on his return to action.
“I was ring rusty because I’ve not fought for such a long time,” said the light-welterweight.
“I was a bit reckless to start with and I made hard work of it, but a win is a win.
“I was close to stopping him a couple of times. I caught him with a right hand in the second round and I was just waiting for him to go.
“Parkinson had come to win — I could see it in his eyes. He had a right go and all I could hear was his trainer shouting ‘He’s tiring, he’s tiring’.
“But I wasn’t — it was just ring rusty. It was a good win and it was pretty convincing in the end.”
It was Rocco’s first fight since June and the 27-year-old plans to be a lot busier in 2010.
“I’ve told my manager I want to get back in the ring as soon as possible,” he said. “There’s a show on in early May and I hope to be on that.”
Rocco is looking for sponsorship. If anyone can help contact 07935 172762.
