A BOLTON select squad claimed the honours when they took on the army on an action-packed night of boxing at the Reebok.

Amir Khan stepped in to save the popular War of the Roses charity match between the Duke of Lancaster regiment and their Yorkshire counterparts when the latter had to pull out in order to prepare for a tour of Afghanistan.

But the WBA and IBF light-welterweigh world champion rounded up some of the best young fighters in the town to replace the White Rose regiment.

And they did not disappoint as the Bolton side went on to lift the trophy.

Gloves trio Casey Griffiths, Hughie Fury and Ali Tawfiq were in outstanding form as they all emerged victorious.

Griffiths enjoyed a points victory over Ashley Anderton, Fury stopped Sam Adjepong in the second round while Tawfiq beat Frank Finlay on points.

There was also success for Bury ABC’s Liam Bollesty, who stopped Nigel O’Neil in the second round, but there was disappointment for Positive Impact duo, Grant Workman and Liam Rowbotham, who lost on points.
