SCOTT Quigg insists moving to Bolton helped him become the new British champion.

The super-bantamweight star switched to Amir Khan’s Gloves gym after teaming up with trainer Joe Gallagher. Quigg produced a sensational display to stop Jason Booth at the Reebok last month. And the 23-year- old believes being based in the town has taken his boxing to another level. “It’s the best thing I could’ve done,” said the Bury ace. “I needed to move. I was going stale at Collyhurst and Moston but when I moved here I got that buzz back.

“That’s nothing to do with my old coaches, Pat Barrett or Brian Hughes, because they made me the fighter I am today.

“But Joe is just adding little things that are making me a better fighter. I think you could see that against Jason Booth. My confidence was there again which I had lost a bit.”

Gallagher’s camp is considered the best in Britain – and Quigg believes he has benefited from the improved quality in sparring. He said: “You’ve got Steve Smith, a British champion, Anthony Crolla, a British champion, John Murray is fighting for a world title and Joe Murray who is a Commonwealth medallist.

“I’ve had to prove myself all over again. No one is bothered about what you’ve done before.

“That’s why I only had a week off after winning the British title.

“If I stayed at my old place, where I was going stale, I would’ve just gone on holiday but I was desperate to get back in the gym.

“I’m fighting with top fighters every day so, against Booth, I was much more relaxed on the night.”
