SCOTT Quigg’s dream fight against Rendall Munroe could be back on after the former world title chal- lenger abandoned plans to move down a weight.
Munroe, aged 31, of Leicester, went the distance with WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka in 2010, then decided to try his luck at ban- tamweight after struggling to get a decent fight in the division.
The move was a body blow for Quigg, who had set his sights on a lucrative match-up with Munroe after winning the British super bantamweight title in November last year.
Despite moving ahead of Munroe in the world rankings, the 23-year-old Bury boxer, who fights out of Amir Khan’s Gloves gym in Bolton, felt he still had to beat Munroe to be considered the best in Britain.
Now he might get his chance.
Ricky Hatton, Munroe’s pro- moter, said: “Due to Rendall’s exceptional performance in his world title challenge in Japan, he has landed himself in the ‘who needs him’ club.
“He’s slick, southpaw, so the world champions don’t want to know. He was moving to ban- tamweight, but we have found the same problems there, such is his class.”
Amir Khan will take part in a live programme on YouTube on Friday, February 3, in which fight fans will be able to ask the Bolton sensation questions.
Khan will field the questions alongside former world champi- on Ricky Hatton from 8pm.
“It’s the chance for a bit of fun and banter,” said Khan. “Its good for boxing fans around the world who want to ask us ques- tions. We’re glad to give them the chance and it’s good to interact with the fans because that’s what it’s all about.”
