FLIXTON made sure they got the one point they needed to wrap up the title despite losing at Walshaw on Saturday.

Batting first, the Manchester men failed in their first goal of securing a point for reaching 175 runs so then decided to shut up shop to get the two points for not being all out.

They looked like they could get a big total when openers Luke Perry (45 not out) and Steve Lang (39) were well into their stride.

But two quick wickets persuaded them to change tactics and they posted 138-5. Steve Holt took 3-36.

Walshaw rattled off the winning runs with eight wickets and 18 overs to spare, opener Danny Hornby scoring 75 and Jack McClung 58 not out.

Walshaw finished fourth in Section A, giving them the last of the four Lancashire Knockout places awarded to the Association this season, fewer than usual.

Last year’s champions Atherton finished second after losing at Bury who ended their second Association campaign an impressive third.

The Radcliffe Road men posted 186-9 (Mumtaz Mirza 56, Matt White 32, Matt Gallagher 4-40, Jamar Griffith 3-58) before Atherton fell 31 runs short in their reply.

Rashon Primus hit 36 and Ian Nuttall a late 25 including three consecutive sixes off pro Nekoli Parris who finished with figures of 4-58.

Eighteen-year-old Jordan Belston was a key figure with the ball as he continues to settle into the side, taking 3-20 – the first, third and fifth wickets.

Elton won their last game in the Association before moving to the Central Lancashire League in a high-scoring game at Daisy Hill.

On a day of high scores and centuries throughout the league, Steven Hodgkinson scored 126, Amjid Khan 57 and James Mann 32 off just 14 balls as Daisy posted 311-7, Chris Read taking 3-18 late on.

Alistair Lowes led the victory charge for the Bury side, scoring 110, Gary Nicholson hit 55 and Read 37 as Elton won with four wickets and six overs remaining.

Mark Wood marked a day off from wicketkeeping by taking 2-31.

Swinton Moorside beat Darcy Lever by five wickets to win Section B and finish highest of the four clubs who joined the Association this season.

Darcy posted 204-8 with captain Nick Fawcett scoring 91 and Aiaz Hanif 37, Brad Palmer taking 4-37 for Swinton Moorside.

Callum Flynn, Jonny Herreran and Chris Holt then scored 55, 51 not out and 50, respectfully, for the visitors.

Fellow new club Winton finished second after beating Edgworth by five wickets at home.

Chasing 223-7 (Sam Holden 62, Liam Watkinson 57) Winton’s Rick Johnson hit a magnificent 128 and Danny Holden added 35 not out.

Lostock completed their first season back in the Bolton Association with a 15-run victory over Blackrod at their Haydock home.

Paul Busby scored 77 and Danny Cockton 45 as Lostock posted 194, Graeme Walsh taking 3-29.

Despite a typically majestic batting performance by pro Thushendra de Zoysa, Blackrod fell just short, Conner Hicklin taking 3-30 and Rob Holgate 3-32.

De Zoysa went in at number three with the score at 22-2 and was last man out after scoring 110 off 102 balls.

Worsley beat in-form Astley and Tyldesley to the Section C top spot in their first season in the league.

Their 182 (Mike Old 62, David Pursell 30, Lewis Clarke 3-29, Tom Pantak 3-14) was always out of the home side’s reach as they were all out for 104, Ciaran Vesey scoring 46 and Tom Othick taking a day off from wicketkeeping duties to take 4-12 late on for the winners.

JIMMY Cutt led Astley and Tyldesley to a seventh straight victory with a century and five wickets.

The Gin Pit captain and professional took 5-60 but could not prevent visitors Standish posting an impressive 242 in which captain Sam Heeley hit 87 and Nick Smith 49. Paul Bennett took 3-62.

Cutt, who recently signed on for another year at his boyhood club – who did not win a game in the first half of the season – was imperious with the bat, scoring 112 not out as A&T reached their target with four overs and seven wickets remaining. Hemanth Patel added 60.

Little Hulton finished a tough season on a high note with a seven-wicket victory at Adlington.

They had deputy pro Asif Zakir thank as he put on a sparkling show of batting in scoring 150 not out.

Suleman Hanif added 45 and the pair produced an opening stand of 132 in 24 overs.

They passed Adlington’s 218 (Majid Majeed 64 not out, Ben King 39, Shaukat Patel 5-48) with seven wickets and seven overs to spare).
