EAGLEY, Farnworth and Kearsley all won their first round matches in the Anthony Axford Indoor Trophy.

Eagley went through on Sunday with a 12-run victory in the opening match at Bolton School, followed by Farnworth beating Heaton by 34 runs and Kearsley having a comfortable win against Little Lever.

Eagley decided to bat and made 115-5 with Asif Bojani top scoring with 33 not out, ably supported by Will Shuttleworth with 20.

The pick of the bowlers for Tonge was Dave Whittle with 1-27 off his three overs.

In reply, Tonge reached 103 in their 12 overs with Ian McLellan unbeaten on 34 and Mick Craig scoring 20 in a game in which wides were in abundance.

Farnworth recovered from 14-2 after two overs to post 110-3.

Simon Booth top scored with an unbeaten 31, and Michael Hicks was 25 not out.

Heaton's Joe Ducker took 1-20 off his three overs, and his side soon found themselves in trouble with the bat when they lost three wickets with just 20 on the board.

Josh McGreavy and Warwick Milne began the recovery before the former was caught on 22 with their score standing at 48.

This left Warwick Milne facing a last man stand and he took the score on to 76 before being bowled by Mark Atherton for 24.

The best bowlers for Farnworth were Tom Speak with 1-16 from his three overs and Michael Hicks with 1-10 from his.

Little Lever were always on the back foot against some fine Kearsley bowling, and were all out for just 42 in the 10th over.

Top scorer was Josh Rushmore with 12, and Kearsley's Grant Cordin took 2-12 and Mohammed Jameel 3-7.

Little Lever fought hard to defend their total, dismissing two Kearsley batsmen before the game was decided in the ninth over.

Andrew Griffiths made 15 and Rick Hamblett 12 not out, while Craig Mann took both wickets for Little Lever and finished with 2-17.

Draw for this Sunday: 12.30pm Greenmount v Westhoughton, 1.45pm Farnworth v Egerton, 3pm Horwich v Kearsley , 4.15pm FSC v Eagley.
