CHRIS Sanderson led his Blackrod side to a 110-run victory over Standish with a brilliant 105 not out in the week his father Peter died.

Captain Sanderson and Thushendra de Zoysa (82) forged a partnership of 145 for the third wicket as Blackrod posted 240-3.

Standish’s innings closed with two wickets remaining but they never looked like mounting a serious challenge to win with I Ul-Haq top scoring with 33 and Blackrod’s Joe Speak taking 3-32.

Chris’s dad and his mum, Maureen – who died in October 2011 – were stalwart members of the Blackrod.

He said: “It’s my first century for a while, so to get it the week dad died is a bit surreal.

“He introduced me to cricket and probably watched every game I’ve played for the last 20 years.

“It’s been an emotional day if I’m honest and the century was for mum and dad who were both avid members of the club.”

There was a dramatic finish at Winton where the home side beat Westleigh by two runs.

Having posted just 79, it seemed just a matter of time before they lost, especially when Westleigh were 52-2.

David Marchment took those two wickets and he was followed by Will Driver taking 4-20 and Mike Seenan 3-16 and a dramatic run out for the final wicket.

Little Hulton made it four wins out of six for the season with a 31-run win at Darcy Lever.

Overseas player Nekoli Pariss hit 67 and Brian Kelly 37 as the Little Hulton side strengthened by the return of some former players this season posted 147.

Dominic Gavin took 3-37 and Amir Abid 3-48 for bottom-of-the-table Darcy.

Shaukat Patel then tore almost right through the home side’s batting order with a remarkable 9-33 from 18 overs, giving few runs away all afternoon, and scarcely any after being about 5-30 on a memorable day for him.

Scott Burns and Jimmy Hill both provided some resistance with 20 apiece, Hill ending unbeaten.
