ASIF Bhojani hit a century for Eagley as they continued their rich vein of form against Tonge.

Bhojani (107) led the way with the bat against the league’s bottom side and Mike Ward (69), Awais Zia (65) and David Shuttleworth (53) all scored high to post a mammoth target of 300-7 – professional Mansoor Ahmed was the only bowler of note taking 3-85.

Mohsin Issop impressed with the bat in reply scoring 89, but his side failed to follow up the impressive start and were bowled out for 110 – Zia did the most damage with the ball with figures of 4-45 as Eagley registered their fourth win in their last five games.

And captain Danny Counsell is delighted with the recent turnaround in form following a slow start to the season, but he insists there is no pressure on his side to keep the current run going: “It was a very good win and a very good day for us,” he said.

“I don’t see why we can’t keep this run going. As you can see in this league anybody can beat anybody.

“I am predicting to win another five games in the second half of the season. As long as we don’t finish bottom and we keep competing in games I am happy.

“We have a young squad and they are still learning and adjusting to first-team cricket.

“We have brought in a good pro this year and he is helping everyone. Every game he impresses with the bat and ball so it makes it easier for everyone else and you can’t ask for anything more than that.”

Elsewhere Egerton remain in third courtesy of an emphatic win against Little Lever.

Daniel Partington (26), Mahela Udawatta (33) and Anthony Clegg (33) spearheaded a consistent batting line up to post 192. Mo Adnan (6-77) and Zain Abbas (3-46) did the damage with the ball.

Little Lever’s reply was embarrassing – bowled out for 49 with skipper Josh Gent top-scoring with 10.

The collapse was down to the superb bowling of Adam Street who bowled 5-21 and Scott Martin who took 5-26.

Astley Bridge bounced back from last weekend’s disappointing defeat with a win against title-hopefuls Westhoughton.

The St George’s Oval side were the victims of a Sri Lankan double-act as Syd de Silva (6-29) and Amal Athulathmudali (4-58) tore through the batting line up dismissing Westhoughton for 101 – skipper Rob Houghton top-scored with 21.

De Silva turned his hand to the bat and struck 45 and Krish Patel added 36 not out as Astley Bridge reached the target for the loss of only four wickets – three of which were taken by Oliver Newby (3-36).

Rafal Afridi led Walkden to a comfortable victory away at Bradshaw.

The hosts opened the batting and Anthony Jones hit 48 before Rob Hardman chipped in with 27. Adnan Malik (3-68) and Johnathan Fowler (4-50) took out the big hitters and Bradshaw posted 184-8 as the overs expired.

Afridi led the reply with the bat striking 73no and Taylor Heyes hit 52. Ryan Ayres topped up the score with 40no as Walkden secured the victory for the loss of two wickets.
