DAVID Flanagan starred with the ball for Lostock as they shocked title-contenders Walshaw.

Paul Busby and Conner Hicklin both scored 40 as Lostock were bowled out for a respectable 144, with Liam Riley (3-45) causing the most damage with the ball for Walshaw.

But the Bolton Association title hopefuls were then powerless to deal with an immense spell from Flanagan, who took eight wickets for 25 runs inside 10 overs to bowl the hosts out for 55.

Walshaw were almost spared defeat as the rain fell late on, but just as the covers were being prepared Flanagan took the final wicket to seal the win.

League-leaders Edgworth missed out on a chance to increase the gap at the top of the table when their game with Bury was abandoned in the second innings.

Chris Read (44), Ashley Eastwood (32) and Simon Lord (31) all made decent starts as the table-toppers reached 190 – despite Neil Tong's five-wicket haul for 43 runs.

Mumtaz Mirza led the reply with the bat hitting 34 but the game was halted when Read went down with a knee injury as he ran up to bowl.

The Edgworth professional could not be moved from the pitch until the ambulance arrived and he was taken to hospital.

Read, who will not find out the full extent of his injury until the swelling dies down, has been ruled out for next Saturday's trip to Swinton Moorside, when a deputy professional will be drafted in.

Rain began to fall during the delay and the game was abandoned with Bury stranded on 110-3.

Flixton are up to second after a rain-affected win against Astley and Tyldesley.

Deputy professional Asif Zahir fell 17 runs short of a century and Craig Moran added 49 but they were bowled out for 216.

Travis Wordsworth scored 34no as Astley and Tyldesley made 91-2 from 25 overs in reply before rain stopped play and Flixton were awarded victory due to their superior run rate. The win moved them within 11 points of Edgworth.

Third-placed Swinton Moorside recorded their fourth consecutive win with victory over bottom side Darcy Lever.

Scott Burns (30), Ather Abid (28) and skipper Nick Fawcett (24) all performed well with the bat before being dismissed for 155. Brad Palmer took 4-31.

Jamie McDougall led the reply with the bat, scoring 64, and captain Jonathan Herreran added 29 as Swinton achieved the target with three wickets to spare – despite rain falling during almost the entirety of their innings. Alex Lee (4-39) and Dominic Gavin (3-62) shared the wickets for Darcy.

Atherton and Worsley picked up four points apiece as their game was called off due to rain.

Callum Barlow top-scored for Atherton with 63 but Schaughn Van Greunen's impressive bowling helped dismiss them for 176.

Van Greunen turned his hand to the bat and struck 40 but when rain struck in the 21st over and the game was abandoned.
