BOLTON Association side Swinton Moorside marked their 125th anniversary with a celebration match on Sunday.

A President's Invitational XI took on a Swinton Moorside side while off the field there was a display of memorabilia, old photographs, letters and scorebooks.

Many former members and players attended, some travelling long distances to watch the game and join in the celebrations.

The game saw the return to the club of former player Adam Irwin, who now plays for Sefton, and Ben Johnson and Eddie Shah, two former professionals at the club who are in their second season in the Association and will play in the Greater Manchester League next season.

Other players of note making appearances were Jonathan Drakes (Barbados and West Indies U19s), Jafari Toppin, Mario Boyce, Worsley's South African overseas player Schaugn van Greunan and Winton's Australian overseas Kyle Humphreys.

The Swinton Moorside team won the game after comfortably knocking off the 212-run target.

The President's Invitational XI, which was made up of players and professionals from Worsley, Winton, Sefton, Monton and Weaste, and Clifton, got off to a good start with Van Greunan hitting a quickfire 39.

He was followed by two blazing knocks from Sefton's overseas player Jonathon Drakes with a 55-ball 92 including six sixes, and Humphreys who scored 34 from 15 balls including three sixes.

Brad Palmer took 3-41 with the other six wickets shared by six bowlers.

In reply, Swinton Moorside got off to a steady start with David Flatley scoring 20 and captain, Jonny Herreran 25.

The latter's game was over when he was stopped by a spectacular one-handed catch in cover from Van Greunan which was voted by club president Lol Duffy as the "champagne moment" of the game.

Guest pro Boyes and Jamie MacDougal then dominated the crease with Boyes smashing a man-of-the-match 73 including eight sixes and MacDougal scoring 58 not out.
