GREENMOUNT will be bowing out of the Bolton League in style after clinching the Hamer Cup with victory over Westhoughton on Sunday.

And with the league title still within their grasp, the five-time Hamer Cup winners are well on track to replicate their double-winning success of 2011.

Greenmount started well as skipper Andy Kerr led the way with the bat knocking a half-century.

A strong middle-order ensured continuous high-scoring stands as Simon Woolford got in on the act hitting 49. Damion Keegan scored 27 not out at the tail end as his side finished on 185-9. Kieran Edwards did the most damage with the ball taking 5-42 in 10 overs.

Westhoughton's reply could not have started any worse when they lost two wickets before any runs were scored.

And it continued to be downhill as the batting line-up failed to cope with the bowling attack of Phil Heaton and Mark Stewart – who took four wickets each for 35 and 42, respectively.

Professional Qaisar Abbas was bowled out for 24 by Josh Macey (2-22) whose tidy five overs also saw him take the wicket of regular big-hitter Oliver Newby.

Dan Higham launched a late attack and top-scored with 28 not out for the Howfeners – but with four ducks and only four batsmen in double figures his side were bowled out for 99.

Westhoughton skipper Rob Houghton was not too disheartened and believes the day will have taught his side something that could stand them in good stead for the future.

“I have to take my hat off to Greenmount they were the better side on the day. We all want to play in big games and we all really enjoyed ourselves. We will learn from today and it will stand our young squad in good stead for the future,” he said.

“To play in cup finals is always a bit of a bonus and we hope the little bit of hurt that we have from today's game will stay with us and make us stronger for future big games.

“I would like to thank Greenmount for being such a good set of lads to play against and also Eagley for hosting it and making it such a good day. The fans that came along were brilliant and I would like to thank them for coming.”
