SCHOOLKIDS from Atherton and Tyldesley were bowled over at a Kwik Cricket festival.

Eleven primary schools competed in Atherton and Tyldesley Sports Association in the Key Stage Two tournament.

St George's Central, Sacred Heart, St Stephen's, Garrett Hall, St John's, St Ambrose Barlow, Holy Family, Hindsford, St Michael's, Tyldesley Primary and St Philip's all brought teams of children to take part in the event.

Each school played a number of games with the team across all three groups having the highest average score being the overall festival winner.

Once all the matches were completed and the scores worked out, it was the team from St Michael's, who scored an average score of 267, and were crowned the KS2 Kwik Cricket Festival champions.

Travis Wordsworth, Australian professional player for Astley and Tyldesley, was on hand to present certificates, medals and trophies.

Mark Grogan, lead teacher for ATSA said: "I would like to thank Astley and Tyldesley Cricket Club for allowing us to use their facilities, especially James Cutt, Travis Wordsworth and Adam Lynch. Thanks also to the members of Astley and Tyldesley Cricket Club who expertly umpired the matches. A mention also to the many supporters who came to the event."
