STEVEN Croft says Lancashire want to be Twenty20 record breakers next year by becoming the first county to defend their Blast title.

The Red Rose stand-in captain lifted the Lightning’s maiden T20 crown at Edgbaston in late August after five previous failed Finals Day attempts.

All-rounder Croft has also targeted a run at the LV= County Championship’s Division One title in 2016 following their recent promotion campaign.

The 31-year-old, who was an ever-present in Lancashire’s team throughout this summer, was speaking after penning a new long-term contract at Emirates Old Trafford.

“I’m very proud and delighted to have signed a new contract with the club I love,” said Croft.

“I want to help us win more trophies. We want to be the first club to defend the NatWest T20 Blast and challenge back in the top division of the LV= County Championship.

“It’s a really exciting time to be part of this club, and it’s great to see the talent in the changing room, particularly with some of the younger guys signing new contracts as well.”

Croft is the latest senior pro to signing a new deal, following England T20 spinner Stephen Parry and ex-Zimbabwe Test fast bowler Kyle Jarvis, who both signed new long-term deals, understood to be three years, with the club earlier this week.

Fledgling fast bowlers Tom Bailey and Gavin Griffiths have also signed new deals as Ashley Giles continues to build for the future.

It now seems clear Bolton teenager Haseeb Hameed will play a key part Lancashire future plans in following his excellent end to the season.

Hameed's emergence in the first team was honoured on Tuesday night when he was named Young Player of the Year at the UK Asian Cricket Awards, pipping Leicestershire’s Aadil Ali and Essex’s Kishen Velani to the prestigious prize.

He joins ex-Radcliffe junior Parry as a local representative in the Red Rose first team.

Parry will link up with England’s senior T20 squad in the UAE next month for their three-match series against Pakistan.

He will then remain in the Emirates for a Lions series against Pakistan A, where he will work with former New Zealand left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori, who has been hired as a coaching consultant by the ECB.
