ADIL Nisar and Oliver Newby took the honours as the top batsman and bowler in the Bolton Cricket League last season.

The star pair have won the awards as the amateurs with the best averages in league matches throughout the season.

Farnworth's Nisar and Westhoughton's Newby are joined in the major 1st XI prize winners by wicketkeeper Daniel Partington and Andy Griffiths who took most catches in the field.

Nisar finished top of the League batting averages after scoring 1,076 runs in 21 innings. He was not out five times giving him an average of 67.25.

Newby, in his first season with Westhoughton since finishing his career with Lancashire, took 67 wickets from 239.4 overs at a cost of 871 runs and bowled 39 maidens, giving him an average of 13.

Keeper Partington had 37 victims and Kearsley's Griffiths took 18 catches.

The prize-winners will be presented with their trophies at the League's annual presentation at Farnworth Cricket Club a week tomorrow.

There will be a number of other first-team achievements which will be recognised at the presentation, including the highest individual score of 160 not out, which was also won by Nisar.

Mohammed Adnan of Little Lever gets the prize for the best bowling performance in one match with 9-34 he took against Tonge.

The prize for the fastest 50 runs in a game was won by Chris Barrow who reached a half century in just 21 balls against Greenmount, and the most sixes in the season were also struck by the Farnworth Social Circle all-rounder with 64.

The batsman and bowler of the season awards – which are worked out on a points system based on the number of runs scored and wickets taken on a monthly basis – see Nisar make it a hat-trick of awards for batting and Dave Mather of Social Circle winning the bowling prize.
