FORMER Lancashire cricketer Colin Hilton has died, aged 78.
Born and bred in Atherton, he began his cricketing career at Atherton Cricket Club.
He played there for a year and a half before taking up a position as professional at Ribblesdale Wanderers in the Ribblesdale League.
In 1957 he joined Lancashire County Cricket Club where he was capped in 1972.
He made 91 appearances for Lancashire, taking 263 wickets at an average of 36.7 before joining Essex.
In his heyday he was regarded as being the fastest bowler on the county circuit.
