THE Bolton Cricket League and other cricket leagues are to be represented by the Lancashire Cricket Board over junior football's proposed switch to a summer season.
The Bolton Cricket League (BDL) has received criticism for not speaking out about the threat to local cricket if the Bolton, Bury and District Football League go ahead with plans to change their season to March to October with a break for the school summer holidays.
The revolutionary proposal is controversial in cricket circles as many believe it could reduce the number of youngsters playing the sport and, in time, impact upon the number of seniors participating.
The BCL believed it was not right for them to act independently on the matter as the football proposals also affect four other leagues which come under the Lancashire Cricket Board's (LCB) governance.
They informed the LCB immediately and it was put on the agenda of a meeting of its Recreational Cricket sub-committee – which is attended by all Lancashire and Greater Manchester leagues – who met at Old Trafford on Monday night.
The meeting decided that LCB managing director Bobby Denning would take up the issue on behalf the leagues and request a meeting with the Lancashire Football Association.
