ASTLEY and Tyldesley recorded their first win of the season with an emphatic seven-wicket victory away to Woodhouses.

In a rain-reduced 31-over match, Woodhouses opener Tylor Trenoweth cranked up the heat knocking 67 runs from 47 balls – including 11 boundaries.

But his team-mates failed to provide sufficient back-up and succumbed to the bowling of Graham Capstick who took 3-8 as the visitors were set a target of 173-7.

Astley and Tyldesley had struggled in Division One of the Greater Manchester Cricket League but led by skipper Jimmy Cutt they began to get their season back on track.

Opener Cutt batted all the way through scoring 72 not out. Joel Brockley (33), wicketkeeper Alex Heaton (32) and Hemant Patel (25 not out) all put in strong batting performances as the Gin Pit outfit replied with the loss of only three wickets.

Meanwhile, Edgworth were chasing a tricky score at Flixton before rain forced the game to be abandoned.

Luke Perry hit 33 and Marlon Welcome-Goodman knocked 67 as the Lawrence Road side posted 165-7 in their 32 overs.

Liam Watkinson did the most damage with the ball taking 4-32, before turning his hand to the bat and striking 33.

But with Edgworth sat on 58-2 after 14 overs rain continued to pour and play was abandoned.
