THE majestic Majid Majeed knocked his 5,000th run for Adlington during their five-wicket triumph over Golborne.

The 32-year-old professional, who is in his eighth year with the Huyton Road side, starred with both bat and ball as he led his side to victory.

Firstly, Majeed tore through the batting line-up, taking six wickets for only 37 runs. And with a little help from Iain Critchley (3-23), Golborne were dismissed for 129. Jamie Hillidge was the only batter of note, scoring 31.

When Majeed, who has hit five half-centuries already this term, turned his hand to the bat he struck an unbeaten 57 – taking him past the 5,000-run landmark.

Critchley was again there to support the professional, chipping in with 35 as Adlington wrapped up the win with five wickets to spare.

Elsewhere, Eagley recorded a surprise win against high-flying Horwich, in a nail-biting finish where the result went down to the final ball of the game.

Skipper Asif Bhojani starred with the bat for the Dunscar outfit with a knock of 107 and Jack Wainman added an unbeaten 27 late on to post 243-8.

Liam Bones, who has 21 wickets already to his name this season, was the most effective bowler with 4-72.

Opener Phil Ingram hit 63 in reply and Brett Pelser added 92 not out. Eagley's professional, bowler Agar Salman, made the comeback difficult with figures of 6-49.

The game was on a knife-edge as Pelser needed to hit a six from the final ball of the match to secure victory, but a dot ball wrapped up a home win.

Kearsley recorded a routine victory against bottom club Tonge and are now up to fourth in the league table.

Charlie Dorsey knocked his half-century from 74 balls as the Springfield Road side posted 217-8.

Bowler Connor Lord starred with the ball against his former side, taking 4-76, while Zaheer Ali chipped in with 3-22 from four overs.

Mohammed Arif top scored for Tonge with 23 as they were bowled out for just 64. Mohammed Jameel (5-29) and Faisel Hussain (3-21) did the damage with the ball.

Walkden provided the shock of the day by thumping Westhoughton by 10 wickets.

After dismissing the Howfeners for 133, openers Taylor Hayes and Aiden Markram reached the target without any other batsmen being needed.

Bradshaw's miserable start to the season continued with defeat to Astley Bridge.

The Sharples Park side opened the batting with Soyab Taylor (42) and skipper Simon Entwistle (38) who put on a great opening knock, before Rakeb Mahmood scored 46 to post a total of 220-7.

Steve Foster (4-47) and Shahzaib Khan (3-35) did the damage with the ball.

With only one win in their opening seven games, Bradshaw started well with each of their top-seven batsmen achieving double figures.

Wicketkeeper Chris Evans led with 45 but four-wicket hauls from Yasir Rashid (4-71) and Syd De Silva (4-67) had them dismissed for 183.
