BOLTON cricketer Matt Parkinson said it was a dream to make his first class debut for Lancashire.

The 19-year-old former Bolton School and sixth form Canon Slade student was named in the County Championship team for the first time for the game against Warwickshire at Old Trafford which began on Monday.

“It’s a dream come true,” he said. “This is what I’ve been working for since I started playing so It’s a very proud moment.”

The spinner did not see any action on the first day as Lancashire made 196-4, but he is looking forward to having the chance to make a mark in the game over the next few days.

“We’ve got two spinners because it looks like it might spin later on,” he said. “I’ll be nervous when I bowl but after I get over that it will just be like any other game.”

The former Heaton player joins two other men in the Lancashire side who honed their talents in the Bolton cricket leagues, Karl Brown and Haseeb Hameed.

Opener Hameed was out for no runs yesterday while number six Brown resumed today not out on 41.

“It’s great to play with Haseeb,” said Parkinson. “I’ve played with him since we were nine so to be in the same team for Lancashire is a proud moment.”
