LITTLE Lever captain Jon Kerrigan has cast his eyes on the top half of the table after their winless start to the season came to an end against Astley Bridge.

Opener Anthony Hilton hit 48, professional Zafar Gohar scored 45 and Dave Bath chipped in with 29 not out as the Victory Road side posted a tally of 225-8.

Syd De Silva took 4-76, before turning his hand to the bat and scoring 33 in reply.

But his team-mates struggled to deal with the fine bowling of Gohar, whose 7-64, coupled with Bath's three wickets saw Astley Bridge dismissed for 160.

Kerrigan believes the victory was the least his side deserved after a difficult start to the season.

“We have been unlucky this year with the weather and things,” he said. “We have had a couple of games rained off which were winnable games.

“We still have the belief that we can get into the top half by the end of the season.

"We have the men and skills to do that – all we are missing is a bit of luck.

"We have been in control of some games and just let it slip but it is not all doom and gloom as we have been in every game besides the Lostock match – they beat us quite soundly.

“Our pro (Gohar) is very enthusiastic. He is only 21 and it's his first year over in England so he is still learning and the experienced lads are helping him adapt.

“He is a quality player, there is no doubt about that. It's good to finally have a pro after signing about five and none of them showing up.”
