FARNWORTH'S dream of winning the Lancashire Knockout at Old Trafford is still on track after they knocked out fellow Bolton side Westhoughton in the last 16.

The home team defended a decent total and despite a bright 60-run start to the reply, they took out Westhoughton's 10 wickets for 100 runs to book their place in the quarter-finals with a 51-run victory.

The ever-reliable Adil Nisar stepped up to the plate for the Lavender Road outfit and top scored with 77.

Imran Mirza (55) knocked a half-century before Nakash Qamar chipped in with 22 not out late on as the hosts posted an all-out score of 211.

The Howfeners started their reply well and were sat on 60-0 with opener Danny Naylor scoring 45.

But once the wickets began to fall Westhoughton crashed out of the cup with a score of 160.

The victory sets Farnworth up a last-eight clash with Read, and skipper Simon Booth is confident in his side's ability to get to the final.

“We are really happy to get through to the quarter-finals,” he said. “We bowled and fielded very well and our bowling was probably the difference on the day.

“Westhoughton have two very good opening batsmen in Danny Naylor and Rob Houghton.

“We are a good side and have a lot of options. We are well-equipped for the latter stages and still want to go on and win it.

“There are a lot of good teams in Lancashire so it is great to be through to the last eight. I'm not sure who is through out of Bootle and Burnley but they are usually two of the best teams in the competition.

In the Hamer Cup quarter-finals Walkden progressed to the last four with a narrow victory against Kearsley.

Professional Aiden Markram hit 70 as the Oval outfit stormed into a comfortable position, posting 130-1.

But a dramatic collapse, led by the bowling trio of Mohammed Jameel, Shabnam Ali and Dave Morris, had Walkden dismissed for 179.

Chris Baxendale top scored with 28 in reply and Charlie Dorsey added 22 but Tahir Maqsood was on top form, bowling a five-wicket haul as Kearsley were bowled out for 146.

In the other Hamer Cup clash Little Hulton were chasing 240-7 against Astley Bridge after their tie was abandoned after the first innings the previous weekend.

Soyab Taylor (71), Syd De Silva (32) and Irfan Puda (30) all scored highly as the Sharples Park side put on 240-7.

Imran Butt spearheaded the reply with a fine knock of 77 and Anwar Ul-Haq provided the support, scoring 45.

As Little Hulton picked up the pace they were met by Yasir Rashid whose five-wicket haul led to the Old Vicarage Ground outfit being bowled out for 217.

Meanwhile in the T20 competition, Lostock shocked Horwich with a 26-run victory.

Jaydyn Simmons struck 41 and Daniel Cockton hit 28 as Lostock ran up a tally of 120. Joe Baldwin did the most damage with the ball, taking 4-22.

Tom Billington led the reply for Horwich with 31 but a bowling attack led by Conner Hicklin (3-13) ensured they finished 26 runs short of the target.

In the other T20 played on Friday evening Farnworth Social Circle defeated Blackrod 3-1 on a bowl-off.
