EGERTON kept up the pressure on Greater Manchester Cricket League Premier Division leaders Prestwich with a 34-run victory against Bury.

Sandun Weerakkody knocked 64 – including five sixes – from 58 balls as the Blackburn Road side started brightly.

Paul Stafford then scored 31 not out, but in a rain-reduced 30-over game Egerton posted a total of 166-5. Neil Tong was the only bowler of note taking 2-43.

Opener Akil Greenidge knocked 63 in reply and Mohammed Jamal added a half-century but tight bowling from Amal Dalugoda (3-31) and Adam Street (1-25) ensured Bury were limited to 132-4.

The victory means Egerton remain second in the table, but fellow Bolton side Edgworth were unable to lend their neighbours a hand as they lost to third-placed Clifton.

Liam Watkinson top scored for Edgworth (28) as they were bowled out for 118. Josh Fallows added a vital 20no late on to boost the score over a century.

Professional Gareth Cross and Greg Jennings took four wickets apiece.

When Cross turned his hand to the bat he knocked an unbeaten 73 and his partnership with Dean Morris (23no) saw Clifton to a seven-wicket win.

In Division Three, Deane and Derby kept up pressure on top-of-the-table Prestwich second XI with victory away to Irlam.

Daniel Thomas scored 28 and Scott Lowery hit 68 as Irlam posted 105-5 at the end of their reduced 25-over innings.

Arsalan Khan was the most notable bowler, posting figures of 2-33.

Opener Jabir Javid knocked 51no in reply, and with the assistance of Mohammed Patel (31no) the target was seen off with seven wickets and three overs to spare.

Meanwhile, Astley and Tyldesley's Division One clash with Bamford Fieldhouse was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch.
