GOLBORNE captain Tom Pantak praised upon his opposite number Jon Kerrigan after his side suffered a 104-run defeat to Little Lever.

Anthony Hilton (46) and skipper Kerrigan (70) put on a fantastic first-wicket partnership of 90 for the Victory Road side as they stormed into a commanding position.

Ayaz Hanif added 25 as the hosts posted 196-5, with Golborne's professional Muzammil Nizam taking 3-33.

Zafir Gohar starred with the ball for Little Lever, taking 6-41 as Golborne were dismissed for 92.

And Pantak said Kerrigan's opening performance made the afternoon very difficult from the off.

“It was a tricky pitch. The wicket was soaking but we just wanted to get the game on,” Pantak said.

“Their opener Jon Kerrigan absolutely battered us. He hit our opening bowler for four sixes in the first over then he hit me for two sixes straight after.

"I think he got eight in the first three overs.

“After that we were always trailing and it took the game away from us a little bit.”

Golborne are 17th in the league table with only three wins to their name, but Pantak is optimistic they can still have a say at the top end of the table.

He added: “We are yet to play Farnworth Social Circle, Walkden and Heaton but when we played Farnworth I thought they were way too good.

“It would be good to be the team that changes things at the top of the table and we are looking forward to having a go at those teams up there.

“We already have three wins but if we get six or seven wins in total for the season then we will consider it a success.”
