EGERTON are top of the Greater Manchester Cricket League Premier Division after they defeated Greenmount on Saturday.

Prestwich, who have topped the table since the opening day, lost to Heywood which allowed the Blackburn Road side to leapfrog their rivals.

In a clash between the current Bolton League champions and the Hamer Cup holders, it was the latter who opened the batting with Tom Heaton scoring 23.

Phil Heaton then added 39 late on but Adam Street (4-35) spearheaded a fine bowling attack which had Greenmount posting 131-9.

Yousaf Anwar, who signed from Heaton the previous week, top scored with 51 not out in reply, which along with Anthony Clegg's 37 not out saw off the target with six wickets to spare.

Speaking of leapfrogging their rivals Prestwich, skipper Will Halton said: “It's excellent. There's still a long way to go yet but we had our eye on their result and are delighted to be at the top of the table.

“We just need to keep on winning. We bowled excellently. Adam Street was class early on and that spell in the first 10 to 15 overs probably won us the game.

“Yousaf Anwar signed from Heaton last week and he hit an excellent knock and showed great composure, he's a great signing.”

Meanwhile, Edgworth sit in a precarious position near the foot of the table after losing to basement club Unsworth.

After bowling the hosts out for 115, Edgworth themselves were then dismissed for 99 meaning they now sit one point off the foot of the table.

In the First Division Astley and Tydesley suffered a two-wicket defeat to former Bolton Association side Winton.

Will Driver bowled 7-15 as the Gin Pit outfit were dismissed for 91. Wicketkeeper Nick Stacey knocked 42 in reply as Winton wrapped up the win with two wickets to spare.
