HORWICH RMI maintained their position at the top of the Bolton League 2nd XI competition last weekend with a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Little Hulton.

The visitors never got to grips with RMI's bowling with the only real resistance coming from John Wallwork who made 18 of their total of just 68 all out.

Andy Taylor (3-7) and Adam Knowles (3-10) did the bulk of the damage. In reply, Ryan Chaisty (29) and David Hunt (24no) ensured the win for Horwich.

Bradshaw stayed second by virtue of a 73-run victory over Standish at The Rigbys. Batting first their total of 215-6 was built around the efforts of Marcus Haslam (57) and Ryan Garner (51) as John Wallman toiled away to take 3-60. The Standish reply never really got going despite some resistance from James Bazeley (36) and Simon Maiden (28) as Ian Ross did much of the damage with 4-30.

Daisy Hill have moved quietly up the table and now find themselves third after an exciting run chase to beat Adlington by four wickets. Chasing 191 they were indebted to the efforts of Imtiaz Cheema (47no) and Ste Kenny (38) as they reached their target with a couple of overs to spare. Earlier Adlington had got off to a good start through Liam Kane (48) and Andrew Chamberlain (30) and then, with other useful knocks down the order, reached 190 all out as Daisy's Leeming father and son double act grabbed seven wickets – Joe taking 4-53 and Mike 3-20.

Westhoughton continue to climb the table with their latest win being a 108-run victory over Golborne. They got off to a great start through Seb Miller who made 44 and Kai Hodgkiss who went on to carry his bat with an impressive 147 not out and went on to make the day's top score of 256-5.

Golborne's opener Yusuf also carried his bat for a fine 64, but despite his efforts they could only make 148 in reply with TJ Pindoria grabbing 3-30.

Lostock sprang something of a surprise with a 12-run victory over Farnworth whose challenge at the top has faltered a little in recent weeks. Chasing 225 Farnworth got off to a blistering start through Matthew Hicks (66) and Michael Daley (67) and looked set for a comfortable win. However once they were parted wickets started to fall regularly as Danny Cockton ripped out the lower order taking 5-28. Cockton had earlier helped set up the Lostock total of 224-9 with 40 together with Ryan Crombie's 52 and 31 from Lucky Issa with Kevin Rogerson taking 3-35.

Atherton enjoyed a comprehensive 182-run victory over Tonge at Higham Park. Batting first, Atherton built up a very useful total of 233-6 thanks in the main to 77 from Greg Greenough and Brad Eckersley who made 44. Tonge's batting then crumbled against an excellent spell of 5-15 from David Baines with only Jack Smith (24) making much progress in a disappointing reply of just 51.

Blackrod and Eagley played out a low scoring game at Vicarage Road with the home side on top by 63 runs despite only totalling 100 themselves. Chris Readey provided the bulk of Blackrod's runs with a battling 34 as Daniel Cain collected 5-20 in an impressive spell. Will Trevor eclipsed his efforts though as he took 6-15 and helped skittle Eagley for just 37 in reply. Daniel Burke with 16 was the main resistance to the home side's bowling.

Farnworth Social Circle picked up a good eight-wicket win at home to Astley Bridge as they chased down Bridge's 159-9 with just two wickets down. Chris Lane (54) and Liam Ashworth (57no) both hit half centuries as Circle got home with six overs to spare. Astley Bridge had built their total of 151-9 on the back of 51 from Ady Cooper and Alex Lowe who hit an unbeaten 32 as Vijay Channa picked up 4-35.

The battle of the Levers saw Little Lever come out on top as they beat Darcy Lever by 50 runs in another low scoring game. Little Lever batted first and were restricted to 117 all out with Donald Hayes (32) and Joseph Rushton providing the main resistance to Afzal Tariq who had a fine spell of 6-52. Aaron Rushton then proved even more of a problem to Darcy's batsmen as he ripped through the order, taking 7-23 with only Ian Jones (30) posing much of a fight.

The final game of the day saw Heaton beat their hosts Walkden by 56 runs. Kishan Patel with 50 led the way for Heaton as almost every batsman reached double figures and extras amounted to 44 in their total of 187-9 despite George McManus taking 3-38.

Andrew Salami with 26 was the highest of four scores over 20 in Walkden's reply, but Lee Halliwell (3-18) and Patel (3-48) dismissed them for 131 in reply.
