EGERTON remain at the summit of the Greater Manchester Cricket League Premier Division following a three-wicket win at home to Edgworth.

The defeat for former Bolton Association side Edgworth drops them to the bottom of the league table after Unsworth provided a shock victory against Prestwich.

Simon Lord knocked 39 and Daryn Smidt added 45 as the visitors opened the batting, but tight bowling from Adam Street (4-33) and Zain Abbas (4-43) had Edgworth dismissed for 156.

Abbas knocked 56 when he turned his hand to the bat, while opening partner Kasun Ranasinghe hit 46.

Edgworth's bowling attack, spearheaded by Liam Watkinson (4-51), set up a tight finale but Anthony Clegg (18 not out) drove the hosts to victory with two overs and three wickets remaining.

In the First Division, Astley and Tyldesley dropped to second from bottom after suffering a 62-run defeat to Woodbank.

John Whitehead knocked 151 and Steve Dearden hit 62 as Woodbank set their hosts a mammoth target of 304-5.

Jordan O'Malley and Tom Pemberton took two wickets apiece.

Skipper Jimmy Cutt, facing an uphill challenge, led the way with a knock of 55. Fellow opener Joel Brockley added a half-century and Alex Heaton scored 37.

Paul Bennett chipped in with 23 late on, as did Pemberton, but as the overs ticked towards 50 Astley and Tyldesley's great rescue attempt fell just short with a total of 242-8.

Elsewhere, Deane and Derby are taking the Third Division by storm as a comfortable victory against Glossop kept them top of the table.

Tajammul Khan and Mohammed Patel both knocked 36 and Sarfaraz Patel top scored with 70 as the league leaders posted a total of 198-9.

Steve Bates hit 30 for Glossop's second string as they were bowled out for 82 thanks to the excellent bowling of Javir Javid (6-32) and Patel (4-21).
